INEC Should Be Thanked For Using BVAS Machine To Reduce Violence During Election – Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the use of the BVAS machine was a welcomed development during the 2023 general election. According to Nyesom Wike, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should be commended for using the BVAS to reduce election violence.

According to Nyesom Wike, the use of BVAS machine by INEC led to a reduction in violence during the election in the sense that the previous tendency of snatching electoral materials was reduced because of the BVAS machine.

Nyesom Wike noted that anyone who carries the BVAS machine will only end up not doing anything with it. Furthermore, Wike disclosed that there were some improvements in the electoral process despite the inadequacies recorded in the election.

Nyesom Wike defended INEC by saying that election is never completely free and fair in any country. He said that the only thing that makes Nigeria’s case to appear worse is that there is no punishment for electoral offenders to serve as a deterrent to others.
