Buhari seeks support for Adeleke after Supreme Court verdict

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged residents of Osun State to team up with Governor Ademola Adeleke to build up the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the President recognised Tuesday’s verdict of the Supreme Court on the July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State, as well the important role of the judiciary in deepening rule of law and democracy.

Presidential Tribunal adjourns Atiku’s petition to Thursday

Presidential Election Petition Court has adjourned to Thursday, May 11, 2023, the continuation of the pre-hearing of the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against the president-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress.

In the petition marked CA/PEPC/05/2023, the PDP and Atiku are challenging the declaration of Tinubu as the President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Niger Delta youth leaders canvass support for Akpabio’s senate Presidency

A coalition of youth leaders from the Niger Delta region under the auspices of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Association (NDYLA) has unanimously endorsed a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and a former Minister of the Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio as best suited for the position of the Senate President in the 10th Assembly.

At a press conference held in Warri on Monday, the National President, Comrade Lucky Emononefe, and Festus Dumbari, the National Secretary alongside over 100 youth leaders from the region stated that it will be fair for other senators from other zones to cast their votes for Akpabio.

Court declares Obaseki’s Suspension of Unions illegal.

The Benin Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) has declared the suspension of trade unions’ activities in Edo State-owned tertiary institutions unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.

Justice A. A. Adewemimo gave the judgment in suit No: NICN/BEN/40/2022 filed by the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University chapter, Dr Cyril Onogbosele, and the assistant secretary, Dr William Odion, on behalf of the union.

The defendants were the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki; the attorney general of the state and the Edo State government.

Obaseki had on June 8 directed that all trade union activities be suspended in the state’s tertiary institutions.
