The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has defended the compensation package for former leaders in Nigeria, saying it is not a “big issue.” He stated that the benefits, which include homes in affluent areas of Lagos and Abuja, as well as six cars every three years, were not drafted with a particular governor in mind. Ikuforiji expressed regret that Nigerians have become unappreciative of their leaders.
During an interview with Arise Television on Thursday, Ikuforiji argued that the compensation package was not worth the fuss, and Nigerians should appreciate their leaders more. He further advised that if the law is no longer necessary, the current House of Assembly should pass a new legislation to update it. He also warned that people should not blame leaders who prioritize their personal needs over public service when they are not appreciated.
