Why We Handcuffed Seun Kuti—Police

Son of music legend, late Fela Kuti, Seun, who turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Headquarters, Ikeja, yesterday, has been detained at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, SCIID, Yaba, Lagos, former Panti.

Seun arrived the Police State Command about 8a.m. He was taken into custody and hand-cuffed. He spent about two hours at the command headquarters before he was moved to SCIID around 10a.m.

Explaining why he was handcuffed, Hundeyin said: “He was handcuffed because the law empowers us to place on cuffs any suspect who has shown propensity for violence and propensity for evading justice.”

Buhari Tasks Incoming Govs On Nation Building

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday tasked all the incoming State Governors on the need to deliver on their campaign promises or face the consequences during the next general elections.

President Buhari, who gave the charge in Abuja while delivering the keynote address during the Induction of Governors organised by Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), urged them to devise creative and judicious means of addressing the daily challenges faced by their constituents.

Mr President, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, highlighted the consolidation of Nigeria’s democratic process and urged the newly elected Governors to fulfill their promises to the people.

Anambra Speaker Escapes Death In Ghastly Road Accident

Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor was involved in a frightening accident, at Agu-Awka junction in Awka, Anambra State capital on Saturday night.

The accident which left his car damaged beyond recognition was the second accident that happened at that junction on Saturday night.

Earlier, the former Managing Director of Anambra Signage, Chief Jude Emecheta, had an accident at the same junction that left him unconscious, while his car was damaged beyond repair.

Okonjo-Iweala Warns Incoming Governors Against Debt Acquisition

Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on Monday warned incoming State Governors against acquisition of debt.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala gave the charge in Abuja during the opening of the 2023 induction for Re-elected and elected Governors with the theme: ‘Governing for Impact (Building Sub-national Governance), organised by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

According to Debt Management Office (DMO) in its Q4 report of 2022 fiscal year, Nigeria’s total domestic debt stock was N27.55 trillion, while external debt stock was N18.70 trillion (US$41.69 billion).
