Atiku, Tambuwal Lead PDP’s Protest To INEC
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday staged a peaceful demonstration in Abuja over the conduct of the February 25, presidential and national assembly elections and the declaration of the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as president-elect.
The party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, its national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the director general of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO), Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, led the protest to the office of the INEC.
“INEC, we say no to election fraud,” “no more cheating,” “it is time for change,” and “rescue our democracy” were among the slogans on the posters that the demonstrators held.
Before delivering the party’s petition to INEC, Ayu spoke to the demonstrators and repeated the PDP’s appeal for the cancellation of the elections scheduled for February 25 and the holding of new elections that would live up to Nigerians’ and the world community’s expectations.
INEC’s commitment to Nigerians, not political parties – Okoye.
.Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of Voter Education for INEC, spoke to PDP members after the commission received the petition and promised to handle it appropriately.
He stated that Nigerians, not any political party, were INEC’s primary allegiance.
If there are remedial issues that need to be addressed, he declared, “We will address those remedial concerns.”
PDP promises to oppose gubernatorial election tampering.
The PDP pledged in the petition it submitted to INEC that it will oppose any attempts to rig the upcoming elections for the governorship and houses of assembly.
The opposition party’s statement, which was jointly signed by Ayu and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, expressed disappointment that the elections, which had boosted the hopes of Nigerians, had turned out to be a hoax.
The massive cheating and manipulation of the election results in favor of the ruling party are no longer a question in the minds of Nigerians (APC). Additionally, your electoral officers’ failure to transfer the election results immediately from the Polling Units (PU) to INEC’s server as required by law constitutes a gross violation of the Election Act 2022’s requirements.
“Neither the PDP nor Nigerians find this action to be acceptable. Thus, it should be contested. The petition states, “The PDP abhors and condemns this foolishness and blatant theft of our election process.
You won’t win by protesting, says Tinubu
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president, has urged Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, to refrain from upsetting the calm in the name of protest since it will not help him win. According to Daily trust.
Atiku and other leaders of the opposition party protested outside of INEC’s headquarters yesterday, and Tinubu responded by calling the demonstration “a new low and a theatre of the absurd.”
Speaking through the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said it was odd that a former vice president of the nation should be so slothful as to disturb the peace in the country.
