Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is set to be boosted by the return of Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw to his squad for the trip to Liverpool on Sunday. A vociferous Anfield atmosphere awaits to welcome old foes Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday afternoon – a renewal of hostilities with major implications on the respective Premier League title and top-four faces. Both behemoths enter the showdown on a high, with the Reds seeing off Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in the top flight, while Erik ten Hag’s men came from behind to sink West Ham United 3-1 in the FA Cup.

United have enjoyed a precipitous upturn in fortunes under Erik ten Hag this season and have climbed to third in the Premier League table after winning 15 of their 24 matches. The 13-time Premier League champions lifted their first trophy of the Ten Hag era after beating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday and have also reached the last 16 of the Europa League and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Sancho has recently returned after an extended break to have a major impact on the side, while Shaw has been one of the top-flight’s best left-backs this campaign. And Ten Hag has now confirmed he expects both to return to the reckoning against Liverpool. “I think we will have players back. Yesterday [against West Ham] Luke Shaw was not available, so we expect him back. Sancho was ill, but we will have to wait and see how that develops but I think he could be [available] as well,” the United boss said.
