Following the 2023 presidential election that occurred on Saturday (25th), Bayo Onanuga, the Director of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, provided his reaction to the victory of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.
According to reports, although Tinubu won in 11 out of the 20 local government areas, Obi obtained more votes overall, winning in nine local government areas and garnering a total of 582,664 votes. Tinubu, on the other hand, received 572,606 votes.
In an interview with Punch paper, Onanuga acknowledged that Obi’s victory in Lagos was aided by support from the South East, but also noted that some Yorubas believed that Obi was the better candidate.
Onanuga emphasized that the election was democratic, and individuals had the freedom to choose the candidate that they believed was the best for the country. He also pointed out that this was a pan-Nigerian election, and people in various states and local councils were entitled to make their choices.
