Before the March 11 governorship election, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo formally endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu for reelection as governor of Lagos State.
Sunday Ossai, the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday in Lagos, saying the organization was in support of the governor because he had kept his campaign pledges to its members.
He assured the governor that the Igbo apex body in Lagos would repay his goodwill by making sure that a sizable portion of its constituents voted to ensure his reelection.
In addition, Ossai denounced and disassociated the group from a statement attributed to one Okechukwu Isiguzoro that demanded the resignation of the governor.
His words: “Isiguzoro tried to envelop our common thoughts and reasoning which is very wrong. He was acting on behalf of the national Ohanaeze and not on behalf of Lagos State,” he stated.
“As President of the Lagos State Ohanaeze, I represent the mouthpiece of Ndigbo in Lagos and I, hereby, debunk the so-called Ohanaeze Ndigbo asking Governor Sanwo olu to resign”
