Peoples Democratic Party candidate Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) has yet to announce his next move, four days after the results of Abia Central Senatorial District election were declared in favour of Labour Party’s Darlington Nwokocha.
Despite citing issues such as the late arrival of election materials and thuggery, Akobundu’s campaign team is yet to decide whether to challenge the outcome in court.
The delay in announcing the next course of action by the PDP candidate has sparked speculations among political analysts in the state. While some believe that Akobundu may not have a strong case to challenge the election results, others think that he may be waiting for the right moment to make a move.
The Abia Central Senatorial District election was keenly contested by candidates from various political parties. The election was characterised by violence, ballot box snatching, and other forms of electoral malpractices.
Following the declaration of Nwokocha as the winner of the election, his supporters took to the streets to celebrate their victory. However, the PDP supporters have been quiet since the announcement of the results, with some of them expressing their disappointment in the outcome of the election.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party candidate, Darlington Nwokocha, has called on his opponents to accept the outcome of the election in good faith and work with him to bring development to the people of Abia Central Senatorial District. Nwokocha has promised to represent the people of Abia Central effectively and bring the much-needed change to the district.
The delay in announcing the next move by the PDP candidate has also raised concerns among his supporters, who are anxious to know the direction their candidate will take. The PDP candidate had earlier expressed confidence in winning the election, but the announcement of the result in favour of the Labour Party candidate has left many of his supporters in shock.
As the wait continues for the PDP candidate to make a decision on his next move, political analysts believe that the outcome of the election will have far-reaching implications for the state’s political landscape. It remains to be seen whether the PDP candidate will challenge the outcome of the election or accept the result and move on.
