Reactions As Court Grants INEC’s Request to Reconfigure BVAS After Peter Obi & Atiku Inspect them
Recall that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Atiku Abubakar through their separate legal teams, petitioned the Appeal Court in Abuja to grant them access to examine the electoral materials (including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS) used during the February 25 presidential election.
You might have also read that Peter Obi appealed in a separate suit to restrain the electoral body from reconfiguring and tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until a proper inspection is conducted and certified true copies (CTC) of them are issued.
On Wednesday, March 8, at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, the leader of the three-man committee, Justice Joseph Ikyegh permitted INEC to reconfigure the BVAS ahead of the Saturday governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
Furthermore, the court ordered INEC to grant the applicants access to thoroughly examine the electoral materials and upload the information into the back-end server, where it won’t be tampered with before reconfiguration.
