The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak has congratulated Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his victory as the president-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The UK Prime Minister made this known in a tweet he made on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday. He stated that the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom remains strong. Rishi Sunak noted that he is looking forward to working with Asiwaju to ensure that the ties between the 2 countries remain strong.
His post goes, “Congratulations to Bola Tinubu on his victory in Nigeria. The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”
This came after the former Governor of Lagos state was announced as the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the early hours of Wednesday. Although there is some division among Nigerians regarding the emergence of Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election, the APC candidate was presented with the certificate of return by the INEC.
