You Can Win And Still Go To Jail, Police Tell Ogun Politicians

Daily Trust reports that CP Frank Mba, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun state has told politicians vying for political office in the March 11th state House of assembly elections that they should not dare to violate the law as he said that electoral Offences aren’t statute barred. He stated that which ever candidate is victorious in election but found culpable of any crime would be arrested and prosecuted. Speaking further, he cited the case of the trial of Alhassan Doguwa who is the majority leader of house of assembly over his involvement in murder as he was remanded last week in Kano state.

He spoke during an Inter-agency Consultative Committee On Election Security in Abeokuta as he engaged with House Of Assembly candidates and other politicians ahead of Saturday’s election. He further stated that the lawmakers have no immunity that can stop them from getting arrested. He was quoted saying, “I would like to remind politicians especially the House of Assembly candidates that any offence against the electoral act is not statute barred, even if you win a political office and you are sworn in as a Lawmaker, you have no immunity, nothing can ever stop us from coming after you if you commit a crime”.
